Opening the door to a new collaboration with the Secondary Industrial School of Civil Engineering

For something to work well and develop, it is not enough to have a vision.

For something to work well and develop, having a vision, experts, lifelong learning, and quality facilities is not enough. New colleagues - future experts - also play a key role. And work with them should start in secondary schools. That is why we have established cooperation with the Secondary Industrial School of Civil Engineering in Havlíčkův Brod, where the subject of surveying is taught.

Teaching in the field

In the second week of September, we organized a two-day field course for students together with the teacher of the geodesy course. The first task was a geodetic survey of a part of Mahenova Street in Havlíčkův Brod, which will serve as a basis for the student's project of reconstruction of this road. Within the project, they will experience the preparation of a construction plan from the initial phase through the project documentation, including the final presentation in front of their classmates. ‍

On the second day, we moved to the nearby High Hill, where the students had to design a hotel house based on a 3D model created again from their orientation. The field measurement was also an opportunity to walk through the space, understand its character, and get a feel for the environment where they would be implementing their project. The surveying was therefore not an isolated activity, but an important step in the overall design process.

During both days we discussed with students what input information is necessary for such work, how to properly lay out the territory and work from the perspective of geodetic surveying, what to look out for, what data collection methods can be used, and what outputs to expect. We also included a discussion of the economic aspects of surveying activities and mentioned the problems that can arise when designing near utilities. Modern approaches were also emphasized and BIM technology was addressed.

School opening ceremony

On Saturday 19 October, we attended the opening ceremony of the school to mark its 75th anniversary. Our company procured an entrance banner for the school which will now mark the entrance to classroom 1C. During the day, current and former students, parents, relatives, and the general public visited the school and our classroom.

In "our" classroom we presented our company portfolio, the possibilities of surveying now and in the future, the instruments we are currently working wit,h and the software we are developing. There were also examples of our work and successful projects.

I think that according to the feedback we can say for ourselves and the school that the event was a success and we are looking forward to other projects that we will carry out together.
